A Joy-Filled Wedding at The Cotton Press | Mika + Jayden
Before we dive into the details of the day, there’s one thing I love about weddings at The Cotton Press: every celebration feels like it has a story woven into the walls. Housed in a beautifully restored 1904 cotton mill in Little Mountain, South Carolina, this historic venue offers timeless character with exposed brick, original heart pine timbers, and warm architectural details that create the perfect backdrop for couples who want a wedding that feels both elegant and deeply meaningful.
Some weddings are remembered for their beautiful details. Others are remembered for the joy that filled every room. Mika and Jayden's wedding at The Cotton Press was both.
From the very beginning, their vision wasn't simply to host a beautiful celebration—it was to glorify God, celebrate with the people they love most, and create an evening in which every guest felt welcome into the joy of their marriage. It was intentional, worshipful, festive, and elegant in every sense of the word.
As their wedding planner, it was such a privilege to help bring that vision to life while making sure they could simply be present and soak in every moment.

A Love Story Rooted in Faith
Mika and Jayden met through their church, thanks in part to a little encouragement from Mika's sister-in-law. Anyone who knows them would describe them as joyful, genuine, and incredibly easy to be around.
Their faith isn't simply something they believe—it's the foundation of how they live their lives together. It was only fitting that their wedding reflected that same foundation from beginning to end.
Their January celebration was affectionately called their "Wedding 2.0." Because of a family illness, they had exchanged vows privately with their immediate families two months earlier. Rather than cancel the celebration they had dreamed of sharing with family and friends, they chose to still gather everyone together later to worship, celebrate, and rejoice in what God had already begun.
I loved how that decision shifted the entire atmosphere. There was no pressure—only gratitude.

Why They Chose The Cotton Press
It's easy to understand why Mika fell in love with The Cotton Press wedding venue after attending another wedding there.
The beautifully restored historic building blends industrial charm with timeless elegance. Original exposed brick, heart pine beams woven into the design, hardwood floors, and rich history give the space warmth and character that's difficult to replicate.
The ceremony space was transformed into an elegant winter setting with flocked Christmas trees framing the front of the room. A mantel dressed with white florals, winter greenery, pinecones, candles, and soft textures created a peaceful focal point, while white florals, winter greenery, pinecones, and sage ribbon lined every other aisle chair.
The staircase leading from the bridal suite became a beautiful feature in its own right, adorned with magnolia leaves, seasonal greenery, pinecones, and lanterns that welcomed guests into the celebration, as well as making an elegant ceremony entry for Mika.

An Elegant Winter Celebration
Although it was a chilly January afternoon, the warmth inside was unmistakable.
The bridal party embraced timeless elegance with every gentleman wearing a black suit, while each secretly showed off their personality with Mickey Mouse socks—a detail that brought plenty of smiles throughout the day.
The bridesmaids wore black dresses in varying styles, creating a sophisticated look that perfectly complemented Mika's breathtaking gown. Her fitted lace dress featured intricate embroidery, subtle sparkle, and a dramatic chapel-length train that felt both classic and romantic.
The junior bridesmaids added a soft winter touch in sage green dresses paired with white faux-fur wraps and flower crowns.
The reception continued the elegant winter palette with white velvet linens, sage runners, candlelight, lanterns, and natural greenery. Every table felt inviting, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed.

A Ceremony Filled With Worship
There are moments in weddings that stay with you forever.
For me, it was the worship.
As "Goodness of God," "How Great Thou Art," and finally "The Blessing" filled the room, guests didn't simply listen—they worshiped. Voices joined together throughout the room, hands were lifted in praise, and the presence of the Lord was evident.
Standing quietly in the back of the ceremony, I remember getting goosebumps as I looked around the room.
It was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I've ever had the privilege of coordinating.
Then came one of the sweetest surprises.
When it was time for the ring exchange, Mika and Jayden smiled, held up their hands, and laughed as everyone realized they had already exchanged rings during their intimate ceremony in November. The room erupted with laughter, perfectly reflecting their joyful personalities.

Sweet Fellowship, Joyful Celebration, and a Dance Floor Full of Life
Rather than a traditional cocktail hour, Mika and Jayden invited their guests into what we joyfully called a "Sweet Fellowship Hour."
Fresh coffee from The Blooming Bean Coffee Co. paired with warm donuts created an inviting atmosphere where guests lingered, reconnected, and simply enjoyed being together. It felt less like waiting for the reception to begin and more like extending the warmth and fellowship that had already filled the ceremony.
As guests made their way into the reception, the celebration officially began with one of my favorite grand entrances. Instead of heading straight into dinner, Mika and Jayden stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance as family and friends surrounded them. Dancing to Taylor Swift's "Daylight," they shared one of those beautiful, unhurried moments where everything else seemed to fade away.
The evening continued with heartfelt family dances that reflected the deep relationships surrounding this couple.
Mika and her dad took to the floor for "My Girl" by The Temptations, and it was impossible not to smile as he twirled "his girl" around the dance floor with unmistakable pride. Their joy was contagious, and the room erupted in applause.
Jayden then shared a tender mother-son dance to "You'll Be in My Heart" by Phil Collins. It was a quiet, emotional moment that beautifully honored the woman who had helped shape the man he had become.
Dinner reflected Mika and Jayden's fun-loving personalities just as much as the rest of the evening. Guests enjoyed breakfast for dinner with chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and a grits station—a comforting meal that felt both unique and welcoming.
One detail that guests absolutely loved was the dessert display. Instead of a single wedding cake, four different cakes told the story of family and friendship. Their cutting cake was lovingly baked by Jayden's sister-in-law, while Mika's mother prepared both a coconut cake and an almond pound cake. A longtime family friend—someone Mika had never even met but whose chocolate cake she had fallen in love with after tasting it at her parents' home—created the chocolate cake. Knowing how much she loved it, I even asked him to bake a second smaller cake so the newlyweds would have some to enjoy after the wedding.
As the evening continued, the dance floor never slowed down. One of the highlights of the reception was the incredible live music by Sam & Illia Band. Their performance wasn't just exceptional—it was deeply personal. Sam had been Jayden's roommate, making the music throughout the evening feel even more meaningful. You could see the genuine friendship they shared, and that joy spilled onto the dance floor.
From the very first song until the final note, guests of every generation packed the floor. There wasn't a lull all evening. Laughter echoed through the room, grandparents danced alongside children, friends sang at the top of their lungs, and the celebration never lost its energy.
Watching everyone together reminded me that the best wedding receptions aren't simply beautiful—they're filled with genuine connection. When a couple feels completely present, their guests do too. And that's exactly what this evening reflected.

The Behind-the-Scenes Moments
One of the greatest joys of being a wedding planner is handling the unexpected so our couples never have to.
The day before the wedding, we discovered they didn't have cake stands for all four cakes, so I was able to provide matching handmade wooden stands that completed the display beautifully, thanks to our longtime family friend who baked the chocolate cake–he had made the cake stands himself out of some of our own Fairfield County cedar.
On the wedding day, I adjusted the ceremony processional after a last-minute change in the bridal party, coordinated with the photographer when family members arrived later than expected, sewed a missing button back onto a groomsman's suit coat, and even found a creative way to prepare hundreds of potato flakes in individual cups for the couple's unforgettable "snow" exit.
Those aren't the moments guests usually notice—but they're exactly why I love what I do.

A Joyful “Fake” Ending
As the celebration continued, everyone gathered outside for a “fake exit” holding cups filled with potato flakes.
With laughter filling the air, guests tossed handfuls into the night sky, creating the appearance of falling snow as Mika and Jayden walked hand-in-hand through cheers from the people who love them most.
It was joyful.
It was meaningful.
And it was the perfect ending to a celebration that reflected exactly who they are.
